Social purposes

Our final chapter includes essays from thought leaders on a diverse array of topics – but what unites them all is the social good universities can provide if they collaborate effectively with their communities.

Contributions discuss opening up existing facilities for local benefit, examine the role of university philanthropy in support of local initiatives, and explore how universities can better partner with the NHS and cultural sectors to enhance towns, cities and regions.

We learn about the role universities can play in supporting the transition to net zero on campus and in their places. And we learn how universities can partner with communities to overcome potential negative impacts from the large migration of students to university towns and cities each autumn.
